What a difficult question. Debian politics has been quite bad (even, toxic) in a number of different areas, for many years now. If there's someone who wants to push this particular project forward and thinks they can overcome the obstructions, I would be happy to discuss it in detail (in private email or irc, I guess).

I started to write a longer summary of the disagreements. But it didn't seem like it would be going in a constructive direction for the comment section of a public blog. You can read the list archives. Sean and I could probably produce a useful summary, to a friendly audience, in private email.
