You have got me trying to remember which was the BiCon where the venue's Internet really, really only wanted you to use http. They certainly blocked ssh, and might even have blocked POP3. I think someone set up a wireless network that wasn't so fussy.
I can remember the shared toilets in the accommodation, but not the year...
